New Mercedes GLA Unveiled: 657Km Range and AI Cabin Revolutionize Segment
Mercedes brings long-range hybrid tech and advanced AI features to its luxury SUV lineup
Kia has officially announced that the new Sorento SUV will debut in India on September 4, 2026, coinciding with the festive season. This confirmation comes after much anticipation regarding the premium three-row SUV. Customers can already secure their Sorento by booking at authorised dealerships or through Kia’s official website for a token amount of Rs. 25,000.
The Kia Sorento will be available with two engine options at launch: a robust diesel engine and, for the first time in India, a strong hybrid powertrain. The diesel-powered Sorento is expected to be priced from Rs. 29.95 lakh (ex-showroom), while the hybrid variant will occupy a higher slot in the range. Kia aims for the Sorento to compete with other premium SUVs like the Skoda Kodiaq, Volkswagen Tayron, MG Gloster, and select versions of the Toyota Fortuner.
Kia had previously indicated that hybrid technology would be introduced to its Indian lineup through the Sorento. Alongside the hybrid, buyers will have the option of a diesel engine at launch. While specifications for the Indian market are yet to be fully disclosed, the international hybrid Sorento combines a 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine with an electric motor to deliver a combined output of 238 hp and 380 Nm, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.

The Indian Sorento will feature the latest facelifted design seen globally. Up front, it showcases vertically stacked LED daytime running lights, streamlined LED indicators, square LED fog lamps embedded in the bumper, and Kia’s signature Tiger Nose grille. The exterior also includes prominent roof rails, glossy black trim, either 18- or 19-inch alloy wheel choices, body-coloured door handles, and distinctive U-shaped LED taillights.

Inside, the Sorento is expected to reflect the international model’s layout. It will likely be equipped with dual 12.3-inch screens for the digital instrument cluster and infotainment, as well as a four-spoke steering wheel. Additional features may include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, electrically adjustable and ventilated front seats, and high-quality interior materials.
Safety features are set to be comprehensive, with a Level 2 ADAS suite providing adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, autonomous emergency braking, a host of collision-avoidance technologies, a 360-degree camera, and multiple airbags available.
The Sorento is poised to become Kia’s flagship SUV with an internal combustion engine for the Indian market. Local assembly is expected to aid in maintaining competitive pricing for the model.
